Matric student shoots Geography teacher 5 times because he failed matric
While you're here, please follow me.
Matric results season is a time for matric teachers to get their flowers and rocks. Teachers whose learners did well, get to reignite the fire to teach. Those whose learners did not do too well find themselves questioning what they did wrong and that on its own, is enough to get them into a depressed state. No teacher wants to teach learners and get a low pass rate.
A teacher from Phomolong Secondary school in Thembisa met her maker a few hours ago. According to community members who assembled where she laid in cold blood, a matric student who failed his grade 12 gunned her down with 5 bullets. He knew what he was doing, he did not stop until he was sure that she was dead. Where did he get a gun and decide that the geography teacher is the one who deserved to take the blame for his fate?
Teachers are not machines or miracle workers, they help learners explore their potential but as the saying goes, you can't force a horse to drink worse from the river. The teacher can't be the only reason that led to the learner failing his Grade 12. He is not the only matriculant to fail matric, he should have gathered himself and thought of ways to reinvent himself. The teacher he shot, Ms Ngedane, is someone's child, sister, lover and more. For her to lose her life because a child did not pass matric does not make sense. It is an injustice that needs to be addressed, even though it won't revive her.
What are your thoughts? Was the teacher to blame for the child's failure?
