The Department of Education said that on the 06th of October 2021 it will be hosting the provincial leg of the 21st National Teaching Awards (NTA) today,the 1st of October.These awards were established in the year 2000 to recognize, celebrate and acknowledge the strides made by teachers to ensure that learners are supported in order to progress from grade to grade.
The competition, which was open to all teachers in the public schooling sector, closed for nominations on 31 July 2021. Entries were received for nomination in fourteen categories. These include the Kader Asmal Excellence Award, National Best Teacher Award and the National S(Hero) Award.
Previous winners of these awards at provincial level include Ms Mokhudu Machaba, who was a Top 10 finalist in the 2020 Global Teacher Prize, Dr Livhalani Sinyosi who was named winner of the African Union (AU) Continental Teacher Prize 2020, and Dr Ngwako Sebopetsa who was recently named winner of the Global Principals’ Award.
''Members of the media can attend but they will have to confirm their attendance here at [email protected],'' said Ndivhuwo Mukhada. The venue of this ceremony will be at the Ranch Hotel today at 10h00 until 12h00.
The Department of Education will also host the virtual ceremony for the National Teaching Awards which will start on 09:00 and end at 13:00 on the 06th of October 2021.
