The foundation of teaching in lower grade in south Africa is Poor compared to other countries after the survey that was tasked in 2011 including 50 countries south was at the last spot it was the lowest of them all globally also in African continent is also not doing well against some of the strangling countries like Zimbabwe and Tanzania. It is discovered the the teacher teach the kids only to read loud and not the meaning of words the read so the children can be able to pronounce the words but cant define it ,so they cant mach other kids from other countries like Zimbabwe.
The wasrt part is the children don't understand their own languages that they suppose to master as mother tang ,because they are quickly pushed to learn English. And this confused them , it will be better if they understand well their language's then they can simply translate it into English. About 78% of grade 4 learner's cant read or write in their own languages, there was a little improvement on tshivenda 89% Tsonga 88 and xhosa and zulu with 87% and setswana at bottom with 90%
