The Chief Justice Steps Down Before His Term Ends (UNEXPECTEDLY)

Chief Justice of South Africa is one of high caliber person who has a well-respected education background in law. Mogoeng Mogoeng has immensely contributed to the fraternity and development of the law of South Africa. Chief Justice (CJ) Mogoeng Mogoeng as the fourth Chief Justice of South Africa since the dawn of democracy. He is serving contract under this position of Chief Justice and he commences duties in the office on 8 September 2011.

He was not born in Zeerust, North West Province on 14 January 1961, and two months ago, he was turning 60 years of age. He completed his B. Juris Bachelor of Law in 1983 at the University of Zulu and enrolled in his LLB at the University of South Africa. He is also holding Masters of Law from the University of South Africa. His education and career have been an inspiration to South h African and most law students and those who still wish to pursue a career in the law fraternity.

University of KwaZulu-Natal (UKZN) which was known as the University of Natal offered Mogoeng Mogoeng an opportunity to serve as UKZN chancellor. The University of KwaZulu-Natal Council elected Chief Justice Mogoeng Mogoeng in August 2017 and he was due to reach an endpoint in four months. He was the third Chancellor to hold this office at the University of KwaZulu-Natal. He succeeded Dr. Frene Ginwala and Dr. Zweli Mkhize.

Chief Justice Mogoeng Mogoeng has stepped down as the University of KwaZulu-Natal Chancellor. This takes place just before 4 months due to the end of his term of 5 years. UKZN said Chief Justice has the Chair of Council, Dr. Letticia Moja, and the Vice-Chancellor, Professor Nana Poku of his withdrawal from the position of Chancellor of the University of KwaZulu-Natal.

According to the University Statute, the Chancellor is the titular head of the University and presides over all congregations of the University. UKZN students and committees were so touched when this news reaches them. He has served his duties very well as a Chancellor of this University.

CJ Mogoeng Mogoeng will be remembered in the several University graduation ceremonies he presented as a Chancellor of the University of KwaZulu-Natal.

"The chair of the council, council and the University community wish to express their appreciation to the Chief Justice for his service to the University over the last four years, and in particular for serving as a sounding board for the vice-chancellor" a statement from the University of KwaZulu-Natal read.

The reason for withdrawing as a Chancellor of this University is not yet established.
