Some days back , the Zimbabwe School Examinations Council released the grade seven results for the 2020 academic year.
Even though the results were not pleasing, it was clear that the work had been well done by the teachers. The results showed that the Covid-19 pandemic had negative impacts on the education sector.
The grade seven examinations were written , marked and results released. However , the bad news regarding the teachers who did the marking of the examinations have not yet been paid by the government for their work. Its alleged that with almost four weeks after having completed their work, they have not been paid for their services .
The 2020 grade seven examinations in Zimbabwe got conducted in the month of Covid-19 as there were many difficulties for the education sector.
Schools got shut down as a result of the Covid-19 scare and they only reopened late when it was decided that the learners would be going to schools on a phased basis.

The marking of the examinations is reported to have got started after the Christmas holiday and stretched up to mid-January.
In accordance to the report , the teachers who marked the exams informed the media that the exam body had made a promise to make the payments for the services after the completion of the marking process.
It is now about four weeks after the work got completed , and they are yet to get paid.In accordance to the educators who were interviewed, there was supposed to be payment of ZW$10 for paper one and ZW$15 for paper two marking.
These are the payments per exam script. It is reported that each examiner had to mark at least 500 scripts.
The examiners in Bulawayo are reported to be forced to go to the Zimbabwe School Examinations Council offices in Bulawayo to demand their payments. It is reported that they have not managed to get any form of assistance.
The teachers cited that they had been promised that there would be depositing of their payments in their bank accounts after completing the marking, but it did not take place.

Still moving on, the teachers allegedly argue that their supervisors have been trying to get in contact with the officials at the Zimbabwe School Examinations Council, but unfortunately nothing has materialised yet.
There is report that there is no proper explanation that has been given by the exam body.Nobody has managed to give a satisfactory explanation to the affected markers.
An unnamed marker reported to have revealed that they had to borrow the transportation money to go and do the marking.
The borrowing is reported to have been made with the hope of getting paid as the end of the marking process, but nothing has materialized.
The markers are reported to be arguing that they did the marking under difficult conditions and not being paid on time is unfair according to them.
