As there are calls to delay the for the re-opening of school, Deputy minister of Basic Education Makgabo Reginah Mhaule, have announced that the schools will open two weeks later than it was initially planed.
"Speaking on behalf of the minister who is sick recovering very well, she might be back next week," she said.
She added that the department have been forced to revise the school calendar as the number of infections is growing rapidly.
"We consulted the council of Education, ministers, heads of department, all stakeholder, were united in supporting the delay in reopening of school," Mhaule said during the address.
She also added that the cou cil have decided to delay the reopening of both private and public schools as she announces the date of the reopening.
"The council of education has taken a resolution to delay the reopen of private and public schools.
"Learners will return on the 15th of February 2021. The priority remains saving lives, the DBE will work closely with a the provinces in monitoring the developments," she said.
