[OPINION] Schools Should Shut Down With Immediately Effect Because Of This Reason
In the past week, Gauteng province has seen a spike in Covid-19 cases and hospitalisations. While we still worried about the healthy of learners at schools there still no solutions as how to contain the spread of the virus at school.
Minister of Basic Education Angie Motshekga recently announced that primary learners from Grade R to Grade 7 will go back to daily classes. This has raised so many questions since the country is in third wave of Covid-19 and it has hit the country so hard.
Today we come to know that there are more than 1000 school children in Gauteng that have tested positive for Covid-19 in this past week alone. Many concerned parents has concluded saying that schools should just close until the department of Basic Education come with a solid solution. We have also heard about the students from Tshwane University Of Technology who recently passed on of Covid-19. It clear that the third wave kills and it even kills even youth.
While we fight for our learners not turned out that it's not only parents who want schools to close down but even the EFF leader Julius Malema has threatened to close down schools if the Department of Basic Education continues its plan to reopen schools. According to EFF leader, Julius Malema, the Covid-19 third wave is alarming. Malema believe that learners need to be protected at all cost instead of killing them.
This is according to the source and the Gauteng government there has been a 64% increase in new Covid-19 this week. The school learners who tested positive are from Gauteng public schools.
The government has no plans of closing schools just yet as their plan is to follow their expert advice to monitor the situation. They believe that everyone has a right to stop the spread of Covid-19 by wearing masks and washing hands often.
What do you think. Do you think it's wise decision for government to keep school open. Schools should shut down Until they come up with a solid solution.
