Matric test results will never again be distributed on paper or some other media stages, the Department of Basic Education has declared.


On Monday, media houses were given with a notification, expressing that "the typical act of distributing the National Senior Certificate (NSC) results on open stages (media stages) won't happen for 2021". The outcomes will be delivered on 21 January.

The office refered to the Protection of Personal Information Act (POPIA) as the explanation, saying the scattering of students' very own data would be in repudiation of POPIA.


In a letter to editors, dated 10 January, office representative Elijah Mhlanga said matric results will be accessible at schools as in earlier years.


"To follow the arrangements of the POPIA, the typical act of distributing the National Senior Certificate (NSC) results on open stages (media stages) won't happen for 2021," the letter read.


"As was additionally the training in earlier years, all students will be needed to acquire their proclamation of results from the schools they joined in. In this manner each student's very own data concerning the result of their National Senior Certificate test will be ensured."
