The 2022 academic year only began a few days ago and there have been a lot of learner deaths reported.
An Instagram page, named Keep The Energy, reported the death of a young high school learner. A grade 9 learner from Inanda, KwaZulu Natal, was brutally stabbed to death by a grade 11 pupil because of a tussle they had over R10.
Sabelo Khoza was stabbed by his schoolmate, Simphiwe Sikhakhane, after the two got into a argument over a R10 note. After Sabelo’s death was reported and news spread, community members attacked and killed Simphiwe shortly after.
Two lives were lost because of something as trivial as R10.
People took to the comments section to share their shock and heartbreak over Sabelo’s death. Here are some of the comments:
It is truly heartbreaking how people are incapable of sorting things out and solving problems without getting violent. South Africa is a crime scene!
