Makana local municipality is the local municipality which governs the town of Makhanda/ Grahamstown and surrounding areas in the Eastern Cape province of South Africa. It also forms part of the Sarah Baartman District Municipality. The municipality is named after a Xhosa prophet, Makana.
Makana Mayor, Yandiswa Vara launches a campaign to help prospective students to apply for the National Student Financial Aid Scheme (NSFAS). In order for them to be able to get a chance to further their studies without financial difficulties since the National Student Financial Aid Scheme (NSFAS) will be able to pay their tuition fees, learning materials, meal allowance, accommodation and transport allowance and also persons care allowance. Even prospective students who were unable to apply due to lack of data will be able to apply. This campaign will run until the new National Student Financial Aid Scheme (NSFAS) application deadline on 21 January 2022. During this campaign all Covid 19 regulations will be practiced.
This campaign was launched at the Makana municipality by the newly appointed executive mayor, Yandiswa Vara and the mayoral committee's outreach program which aims to prioritize youth development through acquiring skills and knowledge in the higher education sector.
