The Sol Plaatje University has halted construction after a worker tests positive for COVID-19

The Sol Plaatje University's construction site in Kimberley has been closed after one of the construction workers on site tested positive for Covid-19.

The university said the Scanlan Street Upgrade construction site between the Education Precinct and the Central Campus will remain closed for 14 days.

The Sol Plaatje university's spokesperson, Kashini Maistry said admin staff and direct contacts are now in a 14-day self-isolation.

"The employee concerned was last on site a week ago, however, after confirmation of his diagnosis, the site was closed with immediate effect and will be kept closed until the regulatory 14-day period is completed. The university will be kept advised on the matter. The direct contacts and office colleagues will be tested for covid-19 as a matter of priority and they are in a 14-day self-isolation. Should any of them test positive the standard protocols for contact tracing will be put in place" said Maistry.
