DBE will no longer be reporting the matric pass rate in the near future. New Criteria to be reported

The matric results announcement is the most anticipated event in South Africa. The minister normally announces the matric results live on national television with millions of people watching.

But the Department of basic education wants to move away from reporting the overall pass rate. They want to focus on the reporting of criterias that shows real performance.

The government will be reporting on nine performance indicators. Schools will judged on the performance of mathematics, technical mathematics, performance in accounting, number of bachelor passes etc.

This indicators have long been used and the department normally releases them later in the year. The department will soon be releasing the new criterias.

Looking at the criteria, now the results look a lot more different. Some of the provinces that got big percentages did not fare well in the new set of criterias.

Most of their learners did not produce quality results, just quantity.
