Students From Qwaqwa Burn Campus Fighting For NFSAS Allowance

NFSAS funded students have been waiting for their allowance since the start of the semester, others have been struggling with first semester assignments as they had been waiting for their book allowance to get in. Many students have been struggling with food as well, as many depend on the NFSAS funding to survive at varsity.

Bubu Bee wrote, "I wonder when are we getting our allowances at CPUT we are hungry NSFAS please , we are expected to submit assignments and start going to schools as of next week but we are hungry can we get our allowances please"

2 days ago NFSAS had updated students nation wide that they still have not received funds from the treasury.

Yesterday a video of students from Qwaqwa, Free State was share on social media. The students could be seen using petrol to burn the building

We still don't understand the reason behind burning building you need when striking.

@SaneleMwelase3 wrote, "They should have burned NSFAS offices or National Treasure offices, UFS doesn't owe them anything."

@Miss___Sue commented, "I will never understand this concept of burning public buildings when people protest, then NSFAS pays out where will they attend classes ??" @Willy_wamka commented, "i thought we were past vandalising the same resources we need to get our degrees?🧍🏿‍♂️ what's the point of having the nsfas allowance if you won't have a computer lab to complete a practical from?"

Serame Phoofolo Isaac wrote, "They come to Qwaqwa to destroy the only thing good left for us. They dont wnt other institutions coz they use this one to launder the NSFAS money. Some are called bread winners while they still studying. They no longer wnt education instead they chase after NSFAS money. How do u burn an institution that is meant to make u a better person for mere 3300?"

This morning NFSAS released a statement informing the students that it has received the first tranche of money for the first quarter of the financial year, and that it will start processing payments to institutions and paying student allowances from Friday, 8 April 2022.

Our thoughts: it is really concerning to destroy the most important things needed to help you and other people to reach their goals in life. The students could have marched to the nearest NFSAS building and voiced their problems. Now that NFSAS has released funds, where are they going to study? Or will they be burning other important infrastructures because they do not have varsity to complete their studies? South Africa is gojng downhill and with the way things are now, we doubt the government would even build a university.
