DBE extends NSC and SC May/June examination registration closing date, check if you qualify

The registration deadline for the May/June National Senior Certificate (NSC) and Senior Certificate (SC) has been extended by the Department of Basic Education (DBE).

For those who want to rewrite their matric in the first half of the year, the new deadline is February 21.

The DBE established criteria for who is eligible to retake their matriculation examination was posted on their Twitter account.

CRITERIA FOR NSC REGISTRATION

-Candidates who have previously registered for the October/November NSC examination since 2008 are eligible to register for the May/June NSC examination.

-Candidates may only register for subjects for which they previously registered in an October/November examination.

-Candidates must have completed their SBA tasks, Practical Assessment Tasks, and language Oral tasks in a previous October/November examination.

-Candidates who missed one or more question papers due to valid reasons such as illness or death in the immediate family may register for the 2022 May/June exams. Documents supporting the claims, however, must be submitted to the school principal or the office where the registration form is submitted.

-Candidates who missed one or more papers in the October/November examination due to a valid reason must retake all of the question papers in the May/June 2022 examination.

-Candidates who want to improve their matric results or only certain results in a subject can register for the May/June 2022 examination.

-In the occurrence that an irregularity is being investigated, the candidate will be given provisional enrolment for the examination pending the outcome of the investigation.

CRITERIA FOR SC EXAMINATION

-Adult learners aged 21 and over who have:

  • a General Education and Training Certificate (GETC) or Grade 9 school report or the old Standard 7 stating that they have passed Grade 9 or Standard 7 or a recognised equivalent qualification obtained at NQF Level 1 which requires two official languages.


-Adult learners aged 21 or older with an unfinished Senior Certificate qualification.

-Adult learners and older who have an unfinished NSC may choose to finish it or convert to the Senior Certificate. It's important to note that once you change, you can't go back and complete the NSC qualification.

-Out-of-school youth aged 18 to 21 who were unable to complete their school education due to circumstances beyond their control, as verified by the Head of Department, may register.

-Adult candidates who have already received a Senior Certificate qualification but wish to improve their performance.

-Furthermore, candidates who took the IEB or SACAI's October/November 2021 exam may also take the DBE's May/June 2022 exam. The DBE will provide additional guidance to such candidates.

NSC candidates may only register manually at a district office or at the school where they previously wrote their examination. SC candidates may register at a district office or on the government eservices portal no later than February 21, 2022.
