NSFAS had already begun disburse of students allowances .It had also announced that students who are eligible for funding and did not apply for digital learning device (laptop) will soon get their allowances back.
Students stated that they are denied further application since NSFAS claims it's awaiting vadild registration data from their institutions.Even though they had already registered and currently enrolled in institutions. So it brings a cloud of frustration amongst students who were in need of laptops but could not apply due to technical errors.
Majority of students that NSFAS shouldn't have subtracted their allowances and made this compulsory. They should have been given the right of choice from the beginning. On social media, angry students asked what will they do with a laptop since they already have their own.Although some with disadvantaged backgrounds appreciated.
Already higher education institutions have received a list of students who applied for laptops and those who did not.Students who applied will have to collect their laptops at campus. And those who did not, the remaining allowance, R2600 will be distributed back into their accounts.
