Schools not closing for October?

Schools not closing for October?

Hendrick Makaneta, an education activist, applauds Basic Education Minister Angie Motshekga for prioritizing learning and teaching in the face of a lack of curriculum coverage in the country.

'This will assist enhance education,' Makaneta remarked, as we continue to fight the deadly plague in our midst.

As a result of, among other things, early school closures when President Cyril Ramaphosa placed South Africa on alert level 4, there is little doubt that teachers are behind with their annual teaching plan. The cancellation of the October school holidays will allow teachers and students to focus on completing the curriculum covering for the third term of 2021." It was said by Makaneta.

To increase the performance of our learners, Makaneta feels that the Minister should consider delaying the December deadline till a later date.

School holidays cannot be given priority by teachers when students are behind in their studies, says Makaneta.

"We need to work together to help learners achieve a better future for themselves in this tough period of immense uncertainty," he stated.

When it comes to improving their academic performance, the majority of students from working-class families are stuck. Therefore, instructors have to think twice about taking time off over the holidays. However, the majority of these students from low-income families rely on the school feeding program.

Abolition of the holidays is in everyone's best interest, Makaneta said.
