Breaking news: Matric results to be published

Pretoria: The Pretoria high court has ruled that the matric results must be published on all media platforms. Afriforum and other civil organizations brought the application to the court. The Pretoria high court ruled the National Senior Certificate (NSC) results must be published in all media platforms. Last week the Department of Basic Education (DBE) announced matric exam results will no longer be published on any media platforms, citing the requirements of the protection of personal information ACT (POPIA) as the reason for its decision. However, the department's decision was met with mixed reaction from the public, including the urgent court application l. Newsroom Africa reported that High court Judge Anthony Millar ordered the matric result be published via various media platforms without the first name and surname of the learner, nothing that only exam number should be published. According to the news channel, Millar's ruling is based on the fact that not everyone has to the internet, some learners are no longer living in the area where their high school is based and might not be able to access their results timeously. In a statement following the Pretoria High court ruling, the DBE says it will be abide by the ruling. The DBE is expected to release the 2021 NSC examination results on 21 January.
