A Grade 11 girl and her father allegedly assaulted a Free State high school teacher.
TS Mokgobo, a physical science teacher, was allegedly beaten by the two on Thursday at Setjhaba se Maketse Combined School in Botshabelo, Free State. The incident disrupted the school's learning and teaching.
A criminal investigation has been launched at Botshabelo police station.
"The attack occurred in full view of the students and teachers. Our teachers' and students' safety is of the utmost importance. It is non-negotiable to have a conducive environment for teaching and learning."
Makgoe demanded that provincial and district officials, as well as the school governing body, publicly chastise the parent and student for their "gutting and unbecoming behavior."
Tate Makgoe, MEC for Education in the Free State, stated, "We condemn the teacher's assault in the strongest terms possible."
"Department officials will visit the school on Friday to provide psychosocial support to students and teachers who witnessed the incident. They will also conduct an investigation and take appropriate action "Makgoe stated.
