R4000 salary offer for teachers at private school stir commotion from teachers
While you're here, please follow me.
Teachers experience their career differently, depending on where they teach and the dynamics of the school.
Private schools are preferred by most parents because they are organized and have manageable class sizes. What we don't realize, is that most of the small private schools use teachers and not compensate them fairly.
An advertisement posted in a group seeking to help unemployed teachers find jobs, left so many people flabbergasted.
The post, written by Anele Mqadi, read:
"Hi guys, there’s a private school in Kempton Park that urgently needs an EMS, Economics & business studies teacher. Start up salary is R4000. If you’re interested, the principal’s number is --- (WhatsApp)"
Teachers could not believe that a teacher expected to teacher 3 subjects would be paid so little. Even if the class sizes are not so large, R4000 is what is offered to people doing internships and not dealing with the headache of rowdy kids.
The post reminded some teachers of similar experiences with private schools like Royal Kings.
I think that schools should not be hiring if they cannot afford it. R4000 is ridiculous.
Thoughts? Can there ever be a reason valid enough to pay a teacher R4000 for so many subjects?
