Opinion: 'Vaccinate in order to register or work in the University'.

Thohoyandou - the student's representative council in the UCT confirmed that consultations are underway to conclude whether vaccination should be mandatory or optional on-campus populace, if these implementations spread across institutions they may necessitate disputes.

Most researchers have also revealed that mass vaccination could reform the socio-economic shape of South African society. While the nation was unvaccinated most potential workers suffered from Little or no employment, the economy shrinkage as well as frequent lockdowns that even impacted students lives in campuses of study.

As things stand the University of Cape Town is considering making vaccination mandatory and its passport may enable 2022 to enroll successfully.

News24 revealed that the final decision on the matter will require engagement with a variety of University's stakeholders from the student's representative council, workers unions, the University Senate as well as the final decision-making body, the university council.

As things stands, the University's spokesman, Elijah Moholola attributed that the Council has awaited results of surveys and petition that is being conducted by the students representative council and workers representatives.

Seemingly the mandatory vaccination suggestion shall encounter criticism and legal suit because Cape Town ECT affirmed that petitions objecting mandatory vaccines has kicked off on campus.

Students Representative Council (SRC) has rejected the motion followed by over a 1000 signed petition. The petition calls on all components of the university population to emphasize mandatory vaccination uptake, as this remains an individual conclusion in agreement with constitutional provisions, News24 reports.

Some students are frustrated as a result, yet the University decision making council would deliberate on the matter on Friday. These students hold a perspective view that such a proposed 'Mandatory vaccination' would violate a human right to choose.

The University made headlines having had to be the first Campus to suggest establishing a policy that would require all students and staff members to vaccinate prior enrolling in 2022 Academic year.
