The Gauteng Education Department expressed concern regarding the rise in the Covid-19 infections and the emergence of the new Covid-19 variant .It expressed worry over how the infections may affect the schooling activities in Gauteng as it is the worst affected .
The department went on and stated that it was aware of the events that were going to take place as the calender year towards the end .Concerns were expressed over Matric events which may serve as superspreader events .The department made a call for strict adherence to Covid-19 protocols during those gatherings .
Another call that was made was for those who are age above 12 years to get vaccinated against the pandemic . It was also made known that the vaccination drive would be taken to the schools , with the assistance of the department of Health . Getting vaccinated helps reduce chances of getting infected with Covid-19 .
