Back to school postponed for learners until 15 February 2021, both public and private schools

School calender for 2021 academic year delayed before it start

Deputy minister of Basic Education Regina Mhaule from the basic education reports and confirm during the television online briefing interview on Newzroom Africa, eNCA and other news channels online briefing that the command council postponed the opening of in South African calendar, all the private and public school learners will be going to school on the 15 of February2021 not on the 27 of January 2021 as it was expected.

All the private schools who have opened are been requested to closing, as the basic education department will want to first monitor the situation at school, as the reports shows that the department felt the pressure while teachers contract the caved 19 and other have died during the exam marking. Two teacher were confirmed dead who were marking the matric exam at the marking centers.

This decision has been taken to try to protect our learners and teachers as their first priority To save lives. Only teachers and principals will be returning on the first of February 2021 but all leaners.

The reports shows that middle aged children and older ones are the once in risks as they want to socialize all the time which poses risk to contract the virus. The department of basic education wishes to pursue further online learning but faces challenges especially in rural areas. But primary schools or ECD centres have given green light to open as researches shows that they do not interact and are easy manageable.

But Mrs. Mhaule pleads with parents to pay school fees for January month even though the kids will not be attending school because of covid 19 but she indicated January in in the school calendar and those teachers for private and independent school will be able to be paid and fed their family during these trying times. She further said for parents who cannot pay school fees for their childrens due to job losses or any other reason, should come forward and communicate with the principal or school council.
