Join us as we unpack some of the options that are available for you.

TVET Colleges

The most viable option even for people that have Grade 10. TVET colleges have a wide range of courses that are base on developing practical skills and preparing you for the working environment. In South Africa there are over 30 government registered colleges that are also funded by the National Student Financial Aid Scheme (NSFAS). Enquire with an institution near you to find out if they offer any of these courses:

— Mechanical engineering

— Boilermaker

— Fitters and Turners

— Artisans

They provide you with a lot of skills and experience which will make you the best candidate when applying for a job. Even if you just have a matric certificate, there are companies that are looking for entry level interns to join their workforce and gain invaluable knowledge about the industry. In our previous article we shared a list of places that you can use to find internships, make sure that you check it out.

Entry level jobs

Some career paths don't require you to be in possession of tertiary education, your matric certificate is the only requirement.

— Make sure that your Curriculum Vitae is written correctly with no grammar mistakes. Take note of the Applicant Tracking System (we have explained how to do this in one of our articles).

— Visit job listing platforms like Careers24, Indeed and Pnet. That's where you will find the latest job vacancies.

— Learn how to write a watertight cover letter that will be in conjunction with your CV.
