A lot of South African students finds it hard to get funding for their studies, and most of them end up staying at home and work at stores to raise money to finance their studies, with others ending up not going to tertiary at all, some of the students that are still at either primary or secondary find it hard to even get money for food or even to buy their school uniforms and are dependent to small charities that helps them with all those necessities. However with Natasha Thahane she can just make a call to any of the ANC comrades and get funding. On her interview with Mac G on Podcast and Chill with Mac G Natasha mentioned that she only had to make a call to the former speaker of the parliament Baleka Mbete and she was then financed with over R1 million rands to go and study arts abroad in United States Of America.
The news of Natasha receiving R1 million broke on Wednesday night, which then caused a lot of grief to a lot of students who are struggling to get funding and those who had struggled to get funding from the government. One Movement Leader Mmusi Maimane who is vocal about such things and corruption tabled his view on his tweet and said”Funding for education must come through proper channels and must be allocated according to the need. Our government is still not doing enough for our students and that must change”.
He further gave the steps that has to be followed for one to be the recipient of any bursary.
There are a lot of students who are not funded by the government, which is something that is causing and bringing a lot of anger from the people of South Africa. One tweep tweeted ,”Natasha Thahane merely exposed and verbalized how the world actually runs and work”.
“I asked Mam’ Baleka Mbete , and I was like ,mama, I need to go back to school. I have been accepted. I do not know what I am going to do , can I have funds ?, please arrange something for me,”- says Natasha, and by just doing that she then received R1 million Rands since she is the niece of Arch Bishop Tutu.
