Unfortunately, recently the cost of living has been going up. This has left a dent in the pockets of people who don't have much money and has made it harder for people living in poverty to survive. However unless we actually go out to the stores, we don't always really grasp how bad it is. That's what one South African Woman illustrated recently when she showed us What R460 of groceries look like.
Her video :
In her video, posted to social media site TikTok, all of her groceries are lined up on what looks like her kitchen table.
Doing a quick count, I found that there are approximately ten to twelve visible items in the picture, with only one of them being a meat product. While she stated that she did not buy a lot of meat products because of loadshedding, I would believe that meant she would save money, however this doesn't look like much at all for R460. So what does this mean for South Africans.
My Opinion :
Unfortunately, for people struggling to Make ends meet, it seems like things are only going to get harder, which is why I advise that you learn how to save money when shopping. Here are a few tips.
Before you go to the store, create a list of products you need and a budget and stick to it. Do not go out of your way to buy unnecessary things.
Check multiple stores for items, while it does take up a lot of time, it will help you save money as some stores have items cheaper than other stores do.
Instead of deciding what to cook on a daily basis, create a meal plan at the beginning of the week, so you know exactly what you need when you go shopping.
