Top 10 Magnificent Mansions Placed Onn The Market in 2014

10. Chateau-Style Estate, Houston, Texas

Texas isn’t exactly the place you’d expect to find an Old World-style chateau, but this is exactly what this magnificent close-in Memorial mansion is. You hardly know you’re in Houston, especially since the home is surrounded by 2.5 wooded acres, which makes the place feel almost secluded.

The sumptuous house offers 27,000 square-feet of living spaces, which includes spacious and inviting rooms like the reception hall, Versailles Room, music room, East gallery hall, and family room, all beautifully decorated and boasting the finest amenities.

9. Silvertop, Los Angeles

It’s not every day a truly iconic house, one connected to the history of a city, is placed on the market. In 2014 several such listings have been made and one of the most remarkable was that of Silvertop, a real Los Angeles landmark.

Commissioned back in 1956 by wealthy investor Kenneth Reiner, the mansion was created by acclaimed American architect John Lautner. It was, in many ways, ahead of time, boasting such features as an arching concrete roof, a cantilevered driveway, and an infinity-edge pool, in addition to lots of smaller elements and pieces of equipment (sometimes designed by the owner himself).

8. El Fureidis, Santa Barbara, California

We all know about Scarface, the acclaimed movie written by Oliver Stone about the ruthless Cuban drug lord Tony Montana (masterfully played by Al Pacino). But few people are aware that, although the film is set in Miami, most of it was actually shot on the opposite coast– which is why we find Montana’s sumptuous mansion in Santa Barbara, California.

Called El Fureidis, the property was designed and built at the beginning of the 20th century by architect Bertram Goodhue. It features Roman, Persian, and Arabic architecture, including a Byzantine-style “conversation room,” an alcove with an 18-foot-high domed ceiling. It’s perhaps this eclectic, over-the-top nature that attracted the movie producers to this location. El Fureidis was placed on the market in the first half of 2014 for $35 million.

7. Enigma Mansion, Cape Town, South Africa

Set in the affluent Cape Town neighborhood known as The Glen, the Enigma Mansion is one of South Africa’s most luxurious properties.

The 17,000 square-foot residence boasts such lavish amenities as handmade Louis XIV-replica door handles from Argentina, Persian silk carpets from London, light fittings from California, hand-printed wall coverings from Paris, and Versace tableware from Italy. In addition to this, there’s a state-of-the-art IT system which cost $1 million and took 2 years of planning to set up, and which ensures everything within the estate can be easily controlled via iPad.

6. Toriva Villa, Marbella, Spain

Located in the beautiful town of Marbella, on Spain’s Costa del Sol, the stunning Toriva Villa offers excellent views of both the Sierra Blanca mountain range and the Mediterranean Sea.

Lying at the heart of the 2.47 acre property, surrounded by a beautiful landscaped garden and with a Grecian-style pool with white columns stretching in front of it, the main mansion is an amazing sight. About 36,000-square-feet of living space is available (which includes 8 bedrooms and 10 bathrooms), so the new owners –who have to pay €32 million, or about $43.5 million, to move in here- have all the room they need to make this their very special Andalusian pad.

5. Villa di Sogni, Laguna Beach, California

This amazing property, set in the lovely resort town of Laguna Beach, California, is called Villa di Sogni, which means House of Dreams – and you can certainly see why!

The mansion is the work of well-known Laguna Beach architect John O’Neill and was built by skilled Italian artisans using the finest imported Italian materials, making it a wonderful mix of Mediterranean charm and West Coast glamour. In addition to the 7 bedrooms and 7 baths, the estate also features extensive garden spaces with elegant fountains, as well as a glass-enclosed pool cabana and a pool grotto with waterfall.

4. Le Palais Royal, Hillsboro Beach, Florida

Set in Hillsboro Beach, Florida, Le Palais Royal was for a while the most expensive home listed for sale in the U.S.

Under construction since 2009, the opulent edifice boasts 60,000 square-feet of ultra-luxurious living spaces, which include 11 bedrooms and 17 bathrooms. Other high-end features are the private 18-seat IMAX theatre with 50′ wide screen, a 4,500-square-foot infinity edge pool with LED-lit double loop slide, a plunge pool, and a huge garage with space for up to 30 vehicles.

3. Wentworth Woodhouse, United Kingdom

Even though it will cost future owners as much as $60 million to fix its structural issues, Wentworth Woodhouse seems worthy of such an investment. The magnificent 300 year-old mansion has the widest country house façade in Europe, around 5 miles of hallways, and an incredible 250,000 square-feet of living space, making it the largest private home in all of Britain. It is a veritable palace fit for royalty, and its availability is a great opportunity for someone with very deep pockets who wants to live like the aristocracy of olden days.

2. Satsang, Yorba Linda, California

The affluent small town of Yorba Linda, California, is home to many architectural marvels, but in 2014 it’s a lavish estate called Satsang that has caught our eye.

The contemporary steel and glass panel mansion offers jaw-dropping views of the surroundings, not to mention the 9 bedrooms and 12 bathrooms. The property’s owners and their guests will find they have plenty of ways to spend their time there, with things like an elegant ball room and center stage, 12-seat home theater, and a sizeable indoor pool available. There’s also a fitness center, jetted spa, sauna, and outdoor basketball and tennis courts, perfect for those who enjoy a more active lifestyle.

1. Palazzo di Amore, Beverly Hills, California

Last November has seen the placing on the market of perhaps the most expensive property in the United States. Since an estate this impressive needs to have a name, it has been called Palazzo di Amore (Italian for Palace of Love) and comes with the incredible price tag of $195 million!

The listing is the very definition of opulence. It comprises a 25-acre compound with 53,000 square-feet of living space, includes no fewer than 12 bedrooms and 23 bathrooms divided across several buildings. Among the property’s impressive facilities one can also count Turkish spa and a mesmerizing 128-foot-long reflecting pool.
