SASSA Incurred R73.1 million in irregular expenditure

According to a report that was released by the Auditor-General Tsakani Maluleke it has deemed the South African Social Security Agency (Sassa) to have spent more than R73.1 million in irregular expenditures. To futher their investigations they have also uncovered that nothing was done to prevent this and two contracts did not follow appropriate tender procedures.


Maluleke also stated that there were already investigations against SASSA which are independent from this one. These includes fraud and compliance unit that failed to follow the legislation. 25 of these cases are investigated by Special Investigating Unit (SIU). Sassa CEO Totsie Memela-Khambula when briefing the media about their financial year reports for 2021, she said that they've spent R1.142 billion.
