COSATU has expressed concerns over the working conditions of farm workers and the refusal of the farmers's union to welcome the National hourly minimum wage for the farmers. The Transval Agricultural Union of South Africa criticized the decision that was made by the department of Employment and Labour to increase the National hourly minimum wage for the farmers.
The farmers' union criticized the government of not reasoning enough with the true reality. The union thinks that the decision to increase the wages is not a welcome idea considering the current economic situation.
However, COSATU had a message to pass over to the Transval Agricultural Union of South Africa over the remarks it made against the increase in the wages. COSATU highlighted that the decision made by the farmers union which include cutting jobs will not tolerated. They described the move as being ruthless and heartless.
They described the decision by the unions as being a sign that the mentality of slavery still exists in the agricultural sector. COSATU expressed worry over the working conditions of the farm workers over which the farmer unions do not care.
