Alcohol traders ask Ramaphosa to drop all booze restrictions

Another alcohol restriction will undoubtedly be the final nail in the coffin for thousands of enterprises, as this is also the busiest time for liquor retailers and eateries.

On Thursday night, President Cyril Ramaphosa declared the country's transition to Alert level 1, confirming that alcohol can now be sold on and off-site every day of the week. Bars and restaurants, on the other hand, can only offer alcohol until 23:00.

The National Liquor Traders Council applauded Mzansi's move to Alert level 1, but demanded that all COVID-19 restrictions be lifted entirely, according to a statement released on Friday, October 1.

“The allowance allows us some breathing room so that we can continue to sustain our businesses while also maintaining the livelihoods of those who rely on the sector,” said Lucky Ntimane of the National Liquor Traders Council.

The council believes that the current trading restrictions continue to jeopardize jobs in the alcohol industry.
