The downfall Eskom's proposal might bring to South Africa by increasing tariffs

The Minerals Council of South Africa has issued a warning that if Eskom's proposal to raise the fees is approved, it might affect the economic growth and has potential to damage the mining sector.

Eskom has submitted a proposal to raise tafmriifs with 20.5%. This comes as the country is already battling with high fuel prices and not to forget the inflation rate.

A point has been made by the council that these tariffs will strangle the mining sector as these would be hard to afford. Other sectors like the food industry are included as well.

Looking at the unemployment rate that is estimated at around four out of ten adults being unemployed, this will badly affect households.

The council ha Warned that this proposal will bring forth dire consequences if it is given a greenlight.

If Eskom's proposal is implemented, the country's GDP will be shaken and inflation might rise as well.
