Cosatu affiliates Limusa, NUM merge

Johannesburg - Cosatu offshoot the Liberated Metalworkers Union of SA (Limusa) has converged with the National Union of Mineworkers (NUM). 

Limusa was set up as a Cosatu offshoot in 2014 after the organization removed the National Union of Metalworkers of SA (Numsa). 

Recorder of Labor Relations advocate Lehlohonolo Molefe on Tuesday reported that Limusa and NUM would amalgamate to shape another association, which will hold the name NUM. 

The accompanying worker's organizations are enrolled worker's guilds which amalgamated to set up this worker's organization and their names have been taken out from the register of worker's organizations as needed by the Labor Relations Act, clarified Molefe. 

The new NUM is enlisted with impact from Monday, November 22.
