People who are eligible for grants from SASSA can now access those grants and use their SASSA cards at all points of sale, including ATMs and retail establishments. All individuals who qualify for SASSA funds will have access to this additional capacity.
The National State of Disaster, which had been proclaimed at the time the SRD award was being given out, was discontinued in April 2022 after having been in effect throughout that time. Since President Cyril Ramaphosa stated that the grant will be extended for a further year, the Department of Social Development has been actively working to create a legal framework that would regulate how the grant will be paid out. Since President Ramaphosa's announcement, this structure has been in place.
Recipients who have previously received assistance are obliged to reapply for it in order to continue receiving it because the new legislative framework of the SASSA R350 award includes additional qualifying and assessment requirements. This is so because the new legal framework has more qualifications and evaluation standards.
Fortunately, the entire application procedure continues to be a wholly digital process, allowing for speedy access and response times, according to the department's notice.
