Massmart Holdings is a South African conglomerate company that's currently owning many brands as subsidiaries under its wing. Those subsidiaries include the likes of Game, Makro, Builder's Warehouse and CBW just to mention a few.
Many newspapers and publications have ranked Massmart as the 2nd largest distributor of food & products in the whole of African continent.
Believe it or not, Massmart is currently operating in over 423 stores in South Africa and to top it all off, it's also operating in 12 other sub-Saharan countries.
The headquarters of Massmart are actually located in two areas across South Africa and that's in Sandton on the west part of Johannesburg and Cape Town, it is reported that the building in Cape Town will be renovated soon.
The company was established by Mark Lamberti in 1990, during a time when apartheid was starting lose its momentum. The political situation of the country didn't bother Mr Lamberti so much, he just wanted to start Massmart and watch it become a success.
Mr Lamberti took Massmart from being a small fish in the mud to being a shark on its industry. According to Forbes, Mr Lamberti is worth a whopping $18 Million, which is gazzilions in the rand currency.
