South Africans leaped for pleasure when President Cyril Ramaphosa announced the restoration of the R350 grant. He said that the grant was returned due to a variety of causes, including the free Jacob Zuma protests, which wreaked havoc on infrastructure and people's lives. He explained that the award will run from August until March 2022.
Applications have already been submitted, but there appears to be a major difficulty with when the first payment will be made to these candidates. Payments will be paid as soon as all of the applications have been completed, according to the South African social security office, however there have been far too many applications, causing the system to breakdown. With the promise of the first pay at the end of the month, it's clear that individuals shouldn't get their hopes up.
More than 7 million South Africans applied for the award when it was launched in March of last year, but it took over three months for recipients to get their first payment. This time, it was said, it will be speedier, but the South African social security office is experiencing the same issues.
The processing of the applications takes time, and the receiving of the applications has problems as well. I believe it is prudent for individuals not to get their hopes up and to assume that their first payments will arrive by the end of September. It should be highlighted that sassa is capable of making multiple payments, which means that if August payments do not go through on schedule, South Africans will receive two payments in August.
The most serious mistake the agency could have made is to restart the application process, as this will lengthen the time it takes to review the applications and pay out the funds.
What are your thoughts on the topic? Have you reapplied for the 350, or are you still having issues getting your application to go through? Were you hoping to have the money by the end of the month?
