SASSA plans to reduce the processing of grant applications to 10 days

SASSA has been long criticised for the queues at several of its office sites across the country. The grants applicants were forced to visit SASSA offices as early as 4am in the morning and even though people were this early in the office they stood a chance of going back home without assistance. SASSA have tried various interventions to improve the quality of service their offer to its clientele. They have previously piloted queue management system to manage queues at its offices.

In a statement by the Minister Lindiwe Zulu, she said that SASSA aims to process 95 percent of all face-to-face grant applications within 5 days and the on-line applications with 10 days. This will shorten a turnaround time of three month to a two weeks. People will not have to wait for three months to receive their first grant from the date of application.

If this is implemented as what the minister has said, it will be huge improvement to the people of South Africa. It was an unappealing view to see our parents and grandparents queuing in the early hours of the morning as SASSA office. It was a mistreatment of the elderly people.

Are you happy with this SASSA turnaround time improvement? What else should SASSA do to ensure a pleasant experience when visiting SASSA office? Please share your tips
