According to the information provided, South Africa will be in the dark from 9 pm to 5 am on Thursday, and the same routine is expected to continue on Friday and possibly Saturday.
Even though the emergency reserves were utilized, it is reported that they got quickly depleted as a result of further breakdowns.
The power utility had warned of possible load shedding in the morning and called on the members of the society to use electricity sparingly. However, some hours later, the power utility company had to release a statement confirming the commencement of the load shedding.
Eskom had last implemented load shedding on the 22nd of July 2021 as a result of an improvement in the power supply . There is a great need for the members of the public to continue using electricity sparingly until the power company manages to restore the generating units that are down. The members of the public have to ensure that they help avoid increasing a strain on the system by indulging in illegal electricity connections.
These contribute to an increase in the demand for electricity, and Eskom is not ready for such developments. The community members have a huge part to play in avoiding load shedding. The community members also need to avoid the vandalism of the Eskom infrastructure so that all the power generation units work properly. It can be noted that it is the duty of every resident to help avoid power outages. What role have you played to help avoid power outages in your area ?
