According to Eskom's announcement, load shedding would be increased to stage 6 on Thursday and Friday and is anticipated to last through the weekend.
This is due to the workers' ongoing illegal strike, it claimed in a statement on Thursday afternoon (30 June).
This alters the previously announced schedule, which called for Thursday's stage 4 load shedding. Here is the updated schedule:
Thursday (1 July)
: Stage 6 load shedding from 14h00 to 00h00 I
Friday (1 July) Load shedding stage 4 from 00h00 to 05h00
: Load shedding stage 6 05h00 - 00h00
Eskom also stated that load shedding will be at least stage 4 for the whole of the weekend.
"High levels of staff absenteeism and intimidation of working workers are still prevalent at some of the power plants." This has made basic maintenance and other operating tasks onerous, negatively impacting the reliability of generation units," it stated.
"Eskom is still unable to return several generators to operation due to the unlawful and unprotected strike, which has caused extensive disruption to Eskom's power plants."
