The National Energy Regulator of South Africa has awarded De Ruyter’s Eskom with another energy hike.
This comes shortly after another energy hike of 15,06% in March 2021.
In a presentation on Thursday (24 February), the national energy regulator’s chairperson Nhlanhla Gumede said this figure constitutes a 3.49% increase for the 2022/23 year, alongside legacy costs from previous years, reports from business tech.
The increase will start from 1 April 2022 for Eskom customers. This is separate from the increase that municipal customers can expect to pay which will take effect from 1 July 2022.

Eskom initially wanted a 20.5% increase hike. This after Eskom told the public that IPPs are the reason for this.
De Ruyter’s incompetence is being aided and abetted instead of removing him and placing someone else there who actually knows what they are doing.
Brian Molefe the previous Eskom leader had initially boycotted IPPs and was removed because he was said to be incompetent.
