There are some changes that are alleged to have taken place in some Zimbabwean shops . The report availablealleged that some grocery shops had removed the Zimbabwe dollar price tags from all basic commodities and replaced them with the prices that were written in United States Dollar.
This development took place a day after the President of Zimbabwe Mr Mnangagwa made it official the use of the United States Dollar currency . The President of Zimbabwe Mr Mnangagwa brought back the United States dollar by gazetting Statutory Instrument 118A of 2022 , which made the use the multi-currency system official .
The Statutory Instrument which is titled Presidential Powers (Temporary Measures) (Amendment of Exchange Control Act) Regulations 2022 is expected to be in place until 2025 .In accordance with the gazetted regulation , there is empowerment of the registered lenders, financial institutions or banks that will lend foreign currency to also receive repayment of that particular loan in foreign currency
The shops may have removed the Zimbabwe Dollar prices and displayed the United States Dollar prices , but what remains to be seen is whether the salaries of the workers will also be made in foreign currency .
