Illovo Sugar boss Mamongae Mahlare has been appointed CEO of Takelot.

Mamongae Mahlare has been named the new CEO of the Takealot Group, succeeding Kim Reid, who stepped down in February to become the group's chairman.

Mahlare will take over as CEO in October. She joins the Takealot Group after serving as the Managing Director of Illovo Sugar (South Africa) Pty Ltd. and Illovo Distributors (Pty) Ltd., respectively. RMB Holdings Ltd. and Rand Merchant Investment Holdings Ltd. were also on Ms. Mahlare's board of directors.

Ms. Mahlare previously worked at Coca-Cola Beverages Africa (Pty) Ltd as the Head-Alternate Beverages.

She has worked as a project engineer for Unilever and as a strategy consultant for Bain & Company, and SABMiller.

She graduated from Wits University in South Africa with a degree in chemical engineering and an MBA from Harvard Business School.

She has worked in a variety of disciplines, including operations, strategy, innovation, engineering, and branding, according to Takealot.

"We have searched far and wide to find a leader who has the experience, skills and ambition to write the next chapter for the Takealot Group. I'm excited for this next phase and, as chairman, I am very much looking forward to partnering with Mamongae to continue to grow the business," said Reid.

Bob van Dijk, the chief executive of Prosus and Naspers, said: “We’re delighted that Mamongae is joining the group at such a pivotal time for Takealot. Concurrently, Tessa Ackermann was named chief financial officer in the meanwhile. Alex Wörz, who replaced Devin Sinclair as CEO of Mr D Food, was another major executive appointment. Mr D Food's CFO has been named Rayhaan Samsodien,'s CFO has been named Octavius Vermooten, and's CFO has been named Jurgen Hanekom.
