China Mobile is leveraging its 5G technologies and sprawling user base to offer consumers new movie-watching experiences on TVs as part of its broader push to help the movie industry in China embrace smart digital transformation.
Under the new service 5G FUN screening room, China Mobile aims to turn TV screens into movie screens with its broadband TV network and solve the problem of limited coverage of traditional theaters and difficulty for people in remote areas to watch movies.
China Mobile said 5G can help deliver better movie-watching experiences on smart TVs by supporting cloud, virtual reality and other technologies.
China Mobile said among 480 million families in China, 210 million of them are using the company's broadband network, and more than 160 million users are using its smart TV services based on broadband connections, and there are 50 million pay-on-demand customers.
The company also said it will partner with film industry partners to expand the film market by providing three film distribution models, such as online exclusive distribution, online-and-offline complementary distribution, and multi-platform joint distribution.
Migu Co Ltd, a subsidiary of China Mobile that provides digital content and services, also inked a deal with Huanxi Media Group Ltd, a well-known Chinese movie company, on Wednesday to establish a comprehensive cooperation partnership.
