Mpumalanga has a rich cultural heritage that needs to be celebrated. When a development company called Graskop Gorge Lift was awarded a contract to develop an area where traditional wooden crafters were operating, there was a large outcry. But the company end up doing a noble thing and building a retail store where traders would use to sell their crafts.
The 14 veteran traders previously traded from makeshift plastic and wood structures alongside the road at the site earmarked for the development are now trading on a sheltered, upmarket trading area. Graskop Gorge Lift Co-directors also assisted the traders with skills development and product diversification.
