We are an online marketplace dedicated to South African contemporary art by young and emerging artists.

The artworks, titled Like Father Like Son are inspired by everyday life and they serve as a tribute to our everyday heroes and heroines. The people who work hard to defy the odds to provide for their families and communities.

The linocut makes use of visual metaphors to tell a story of everyday heroes in labour-intensive industries who had to migrate around the country and those who have immigrated into the country to look for better opportunities.

Despite paying homage to others, the work revisits my childhood memories and my journey to adulthood. It explores how a child grows up with hopes and dreams, oblivious to responsibilities and challenges, only to find him/herself battling with life's obstacles.

I look at the concept of young children having to step up into adults’ shoes because their realities demand them to. The work inspires one to be resilient and show courage in difficult circumstances. It is a call for the youth to be forward-looking and have better hopes for the future.
