Rape Obscene

A 17-year-old mother has been arrested for abandoning her week-old baby.

It has been reported that a 17-year-old girl has been arrested by the George Family Violence, Child Protection and S*x*al Offences Unit. This follows after she allegedly abandoned her week-old baby in Knysna. The police had to launch a search for the female suspect that abandoned the child. This was confirmed in the police statement about the case.

The police spokesperson Captain Malcolm Pojie said the police has to trace back the child in terms of the hospital that it was born in and that's where their investigations were made simpler. As they got all the information they required from the Knysna Hospital's maternity ward. Hence they were able to know the mother's address and even contact details. The police used all the important information acquired at the hospital to then arrest the mother of the girl child.

"Information obtained took the investigation offer to New Horizon in Plettenberg Bay, where they traced the 17-year-old mother of the child. The mother was arrested on the spot and is currently in detention and being processed," said Pojie.

The motive of the suspect to abandon the child is unknown but as time goes by probably she will open up and tell the truth. The teenager is in police custody and is awaiting for appearance in the Knysna Magistrate's Court during the week.
