Free State police are searching for criminals who robbed and assassinated a 66-year-old man in his smallholding over the weekend.
Police spokesperson Brigadier Motantsi Makhele said a neighbor went to check in at about 06:00 on Sunday at the Avondster plot in Viljoenskroon, as he had not seen since the morning before.
There he found that the window of the bedroom was open and the bars were removed. He glanced through the window and found blood spots on the walls and alerted the officers.
Upon entry, the police discovered a man's corpse on a bed wrapped with sheets.
The suspect, who lived alone, was discovered bound with an electrical cord and had several knife wounds on his head. Preliminary findings found that the deceased Toyota Hilux Bakkie was missing.
No charges have been made and the inquiry is continuing.
