Fake Goods & Perishables Impounded Following A Clean Up Operation In Germiston.

On Tuesday (22 September) different EMPD units and SAPS members visited Germiston and goods for sale displayed at prohibited places, obstructing pedestrians on sidewalks and abandoned dilapidated motor vehicles parked illegally, were impounded.

Between 10h00 and 15h00, sidewalks on Rand, Knox with Joubert streets, were raided following a joint bylaws operation. When hawkers operating illegally saw officers closing in, they ran in different directions leaving their merchandise behind.

Eight motor vehicles, 24 dolls, a braai stand, big pot, 10 plastic chairs, two boxes of cellphone pouches, a box of self-made waist belts, steel wool packed in two container bags, 141 boxes, crates and bags full of fruit and vegetables, four big bags of fake second hand clothing, a crate of different spices, three boxes of mixed sweets and a bag containing shoe materials, were confiscated.

Liable owners who wish to claim their seized goods, must be prepared to dig deep and pay the relevant fine for contravening municipal bylaws. Claimants can visit the EMPD Germiston precinct in Elsburg, corner of Voortrekker and Els streets, with the necessary proof. Perishables not claimed timeously are likely to be destroyed within 24 hours.

This is an ongoing operation.
