The Member of the Executive Council in the Gauteng Provincial Government and MEC for Community Safety Faith Mazibuko has confirmed the arrest of the owner of the Redbull butchery which is situated opposite the Bara Taxi Rank in Soweto for selling expired meat and sauces.
"The owner of the Redbull butchery, opposite the Bara Taxi Rank, has been arrested for selling expired meat and sauces," she said.
Mazibuko who addressed members of the media following the discovery of expired food products at Redbull Meats butchery said members of the public should exercise extra caution when buying food products such as meat.
The expired meat was put in plastic bags and the MEC said it was stinking and it's saddening that people were queuing outside to buy the expired products.
"The plastic bags are carrying rotten meat. We call upon our citizens to exercise caution when buying food products,'' she said.
Mazibuko also noted that the Johannesburg Metro Police Department (JMPD) Health Inspectors are closing the Usave, which is situated opposite the Bara Taxi Rank because it does not have certificate of acceptance.

MEC Mazibuko and her team are doing a walk about in Bara Taxi Rank and she said as they were walking, they were drawn by a smell that was coming from the butchery that's when they decided to go inside and check.
Mazibuko said the other fridge inside the butchery was full of cows heads and other different kinds of meats mixed inside the fridge that were also expired while people were waiting outside in long queues to buy the expired food.
The JMPD Health Inspectors also discovered other expired products in a shop within Bara mall precinct.
