‘I stole a cow to pay medical bills’

A 32-YEAR-OLD Muzarabani man told Guruve resident magistrate Rumbidzai Mugwagwa that he robbed his neighbor's cow in order to pay medical bills for his other child with a mental disorder.

Patnus Kaurimbo of Mukororodzi Village, Muzarabani, was sentenced to 9 years of compulsory stock stealing. In his plea of remorse, he claimed he was too poor and could not collect medical bills for his sick boy, too he robbed the bovine.

The state-run Carson Kundiona told the court that on September 10, Kaurimbo robbed the cattle from the pasture lands and went on to butcher them in the river Musengezi.

He dumped the carcass back into the river.

The complainant tracked footsteps that took him to the place of Mhene, Muzarabani, and discovered that the prisoner was selling beef, just 2 kgs of beef had been retrieved.
