South Africans don't have much faith in the Government, it's easy to see why when you look at the poverty and employment levels in the Country. So its confusing when Government managers ask for salary increases, when it doesn't look like they are doing anything for South Africans. However recently they did and here is there reason why.
They want a raise :
Government Managers need raises, so that there employees do not earn more than they do. This of course makes sense, as the higher level worker you are, the more you earn. However it's really bad timing.
Many South Africans can barely afford to put food on the table and with the prices of many basic items going up they are going to be struggling more and more soon. So government Managers who probably already earn a lot of money doesn't seem like a priority. Especially when that money can be used for a different purpose.
My Opinion :
From a business standpoint it makes sense that workers shouldn't earn more than their managers but I also think it's incredibly selfish to be seeking a raise in these times. I believe that these government Managers should be happy with what they have, as they are doing better than the majority of South Africans at this point.
Wanting a raise because you don't want your employees to do better than you just seems like an ego issue.
I urge all South Africans to speak out against this so that no more money is wasted on the government when the citizens are suffering and I would like to ask the government to do better and focus on the people more than themselves.
