Muvhango's Agnes reveals they need to have followers in order to get an acting job

The rate of unemployment is getting higher in South Africa. As the struggle continues, institutions like Unisa receive high number of applications as graduates think getting other qualifications would increase the chance of getting employed. Some jobs requires experience and you require a job in order to get that experience.

Former Muvhango's actress Millicent Makhado disclosed something about the entertainment industry. Millicent starred on Muvhango as Agnes Mukwevho, Chief Azwinndini Mukwevho's half sister. She went Live on Facebook to reveal something about the entertainment industry that her fans and others who wish to be on TV may not know.

Millicent told her fans that as actors when they go for auditions, they fill in forms where they have to declare the number of followers they have on Facebook, Instagram and Twitter, that's how people get jobs these days in other production companies, not all. "It's a sad situation meaning that we are supposed to get followers, therefore i plead with you to follow me on Instagram and on Twitter so I can get a job", she said on Facebook. The actress further on said she is aware that the video might trend and come back to destroy her but it is what it is.

Production companies are in competition because there are many television dramas and soapies, so they must hire someone who will attract people and grow their business. Hiring someone who has got many followers on social media may be a good move as their fans would love to watch them on TV. Maybe this is why some people are dominating the industry because they have many followers on social networks.

The issue can be discouraging to upcoming artists because people won't just follow a nobody on social media. You need an acting job in order to get those followers but they expect you to have those followers in order to get the job. Imagine not getting that job because you don't have enough followers.

It takes us back to 'experience for job and job for experience'. You need experience to get a job and you also need a job to gain experience, this is how bad things have become. Bear in mind that Millicent said this does not apply in all production companies.
